This is a fantastic stone - It is actually one of the oldest known fossils! It was formed from Algae, (or Stromatolites) 2 billion years ago! It is from the Mesabi Range in Northern, Minnesota. We have created some great cabochons and jewelry from both Red and Green Mary Ellen - There is a lot of Hematite in this stone and you can see some of the shine in our cabs!
